Ringing Home
There are 2 ways of calling back to the UK — either from your hotel or from a public telephone. The hotel may be more convenient but it can be quite expensive. It is usually possible to make a call via the operator or through the hotel switchboard, but beware of extra charges.
Public telephones operate with a phone card which can be purchased either from the PTT or sometimes from small grocery stores. The best cards to buy for calls to the UK are either 60 units or 100 units. The 60 unit card will enable you to talk for about 1 minute although if you call after midnight Turkish time or any time on a Sunday you will get double the time.
